Today we’ve got a report on one of the most unusual looking competitions we’ve seen for a while. It was organized by Red Bull and it involved 10 World class competitors climbing a 115 metre, vertical to overhanging wall up some of notoriously loose and difficult Isle of Wight chalk, just off England’s south coast.
To get the lowdown on the whole event, and for an insiders take on the ethics of it, we spoke to Greg Boswell, who came 9th in the competition, climbing the route in a forearm busting 27 minutes, 26 seconds.
The event looked incredible but it hasn’t passed off without a bit of controversy because a few people have questioned whether chalk cliffs should be damaged in this way for a competition.
The winner of the event was Alexei Tomilov, who finished in an astonishing 16 minutes 46 seconds. Chamonix local Jeff Mercier was nearly 3 minutes back in second and Will Mayo was another 2 minutes behind in third.
