Based on Neil Young’s 'The Needle and The Damage Done' our edit, The Needle, is a story about life and the possibility of death on the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix. (The French word 'aiguille' in English means 'needle'). Enter into Bird’s addiction, depicted by daily trips, shooting up to the Needle, and getting high at 3,800 meters, feeling nothing else but the power of the moment. My love of the mountains and skiing kept me from being a street junkie. Skiing saved me. Instead I am a mountain junkie, addicted to the rush of speed and clarity of mind that exposure on the mountain provides. There is no better place to feed these addictions - where you're driven to ski faster, fly further, climb higher and do it over and over again - than The Needle. But one day it can come. A reckoning with wanting too much. Watch and learn from Bird's Crash, the inevitable ending of getting too high, and wanting too much.
