Named in honour of its extremely overhanging walls, Sector 45 in Val de la Gallinera, Spain has been the long-term pet project of a strong team of British climbers. For the past few years, this dedicated band of developers have been adding to its walls establishing routes and projects from 6a to 9a/+. In early 2015 however, the king line of the crag still remained unclimbed. 'Supersónico' (8c+/5.14c) follows the 45 degree overhang of the crag's main wall for 30 metres, with an initial tufa section followed by an incredible prow and headwall to the chains. In January 2015, Gaz Parry successfully made the first ascent of the route, having dedicated 20 days out of his 21-day trip to working the line. With a singular project and the ever-present risk that he would return home without climbing anything, Gaz had to dig deep to find not just the strength, but the positivity necessary to complete the line.
