It’s been quite the season over in the Karakorum this year, with over 40 climbers reaching the summit of K2 this week, an unprecedented figure on what is generally considered to be the World’s hardest mountain. The season was also notable because the first all Pakistani team made the summit of their Country’s highest peak. Pakistani’s had been to the top before but only as part of other teams so this was a great day for the Karakorum mountaineering community.
This has led to speculation that K2 may become the new Everest and soon be covered in fixed lines and hundreds of guided clients but general consensus is that the unusually good weather was more responsible for the huge number of summiteers than the route becoming more accessible. Much of the summit day is on 60 – 70 degree ice and the crux traverse is pushing vertical, so this is far from an easy peak.
Big thanks to Alan Arnette, who provided us with this grainy but moving footage of the mountain and the celebrations which follow a successful expedition.

Next, we’ve got a video of a pretty innovative rucksack from Osprey. It’s called the Atmos AG 65 and Oli checked it out for us at Outdoor 2014 in Friedrichschafen.
