Established by the late American climber Craig Leubben, the Chamonix offwidth 'Thai Boxing' (E7 6c/5.12d) has both a fierce reputation and a colourful history. Craig first climbed the line using natural protection but the route was later bolted, to the consternation of many in the climbing community. After making the fourth and fifth ascents of the route in trad style, Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker resolved to remove the bolts, returning the route to its original condition. Such is the reputation of the route as 'Europe's hardest offwidth,' that over the years it has attracted some of the world's best climbers, intent on pitting their strength against the stout, thrutchy challenge. Following in this tradition is US big wall veteran Tommy Caldwell who was forced to employ not just his strength, but his skill, experience and tenacity to puzzle out the moves in ground-up style.
