British climber Hazel Findlay hashed out yet another successful trip to Yosemite, with two, yet two ascents of El Capitan, including a one day ascent of the 'normal route', the nose.
Hazel also climbed Freerider - her 3rd free ascent of El Cap. In the past she has also freed Premuir and Golden Gate, and said on her blog that although Freerider is supposedly the easiest of the routes she's done, there really is no easy way up El Cap.
To give you some idea, Freerider is 5.12D, which is about 7c, and it's burly, all body climbing up chimneys and corners. To avoid hauling their kit up the route, Hazel and her climbing partner, Yosemite local James Lucas, abseiled down the route to stash kit.
The route took them 3 days, including abseiling the entire route at the end of the final day. Meanwhile, after we reported that Tommy Caldwell was injured while attempting the Dawn Wall project, it turns out that his partner Kevin Jorgeson is still intending to climb the route. It looks like he's struggling for a partner though, and is quoted as saying that, 'if you know of any wall savvy climbers who would be up to do some hiking, jumaring and belaying, let me know!'
Asked if he thought Tommy would be annoyed, Kevin replied, 'It's my project too' and added that when he himself injured his ankle 2 years ago, Tommy asked to continue. A bit of tension perhaps?
