The biggest moment in snowboard history for SOME time has just gone down - the first winner of the first gold medal in Slopestyle EVER, and it goes to American Sage Kotsenburg. Not only did he win, but the entire sport of snowboarding sort of 'won' because FINALLY, style took precedent over spinning when it came to the gold.
Staale Sandbech and Mark McMorris took silver and bronze respectively in a day that took competition snowboarding into mainstream media -- with a f***ing bang.
Jamie Anderson took the women's gold in a Team USA sweep. She took the number one spot with a run that included a Cab 720, a gigantic Switch Backside 540 and a HUGE Front 7. Amazing run.
Jenny Jones came third and added an Olympic medal to an already stacked trophy case that includes a throng of X Games medals, and we all know the ENTIRETY of the UK went absolutely bat-shit when she took home bronze.
Enni Rukajarvi of Finland took silver with a 92.50, and everyone in Finland went drinking.
Honorable mention (in 5th place) went to Sarka Pancochova from the Czech Republic who took a horrendous slam after overcooking a Cab 7 and literally cracked her helmet open on impact. Good job she's tough as nails.
