Ueli Steck’s journey has led him to some of the hardest mountains in the Alps, into towering spines above Chamonix, France. There he joins his old friends and makes new ones with every peak. The climbing gets more technical and more challenging here but it doesn’t stop Ueli moving forward in his challenge, bagging peak after peak on his way toward the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif. A four-part series, The Classic Alpinist chronicles the highs and lows of Ueli’s mission to summit all 4,000 metre peaks throughout the Alps in just 80 days during the summer of 2015. This incredible feat was made all the more difficult as Steck decided to undergo the entire challenge under manpower alone. No cars, planes nor trains – just Ueli, his bike, and his mountaineering gear on the ultimate endurance challenge in the Alps. Throughout his project, Ueli is accompanied by his friend and long-time collaborator, Daniel Mader, and unsurprisingly, a journey of this magnitude happens to attract some of Europe’s best alpine-climbing talent along the way.
