From Dominik Pončo Hladký via Facebook: "Imagine you have Petzl quark, in much cheaper version. Quark have s little lighter head (I consider like a con) a a little better shapes the bottom spike (pro). They are over all lighter(pro) so if you want heavier head you can add weights and you will end up with same like the Bandit. The blade on Bandit is a little thicker (con?) but I don't see that much difference in penetration of ice or what ever. If you are looking for a multi functional tool, mix, ice, approach you just found one pretty cheaply.'
Hi Tony. For Scottish winter climbing, something like the Petzl Quark or Black Diamond Viper work well. Anything more technical usually won't come with a hammer or azde, and you'll want theses for cutting steps and smashing pro into frozen cracks. Closer to home, the DMM Apex is a great allrounder, or the slightly less technical DMM Fly Mountain is a great entry to mid level axe.
If your ski tour is not including too technical sections one good option might be Austri Alpin's Mini PhRugo: http://www.epictv.com/media/podcast/the-austrialpin-mini-phrugo-ice-axe---2015-review-%7C-outdoor-2015/602874
If you are looking for full sized ice axe Petzl Glacier LiteRide and Edelrid Race could be interesting options as well.
